Shashi Mostafa is a conceptual artist who makes fictional narratives that humanize victims. As a director, screenwriter and photographer, she aims to instigate social change with her films and photo series. Exploring the dark parts of humanity, she creates pieces that brew empathy, challenge oppression and project power.

Shashi has recently completed a 40-minute narrative, A Simulation, which is critical of the racism in her hometown, Solvang, CA. Her photography series, “Unapologetically South Asian Women,” has been showcased at the University Art Gallery at UC San Diego and published in the ERC Circuit Research Journal. She has also created photo and video installations, including the recent “Ride or Die,” a permanent 8ft x 10ft smog eating mural that is installed at the center of UC San Diego.

She has experience with concert photography at music festivals such as Sun God and Hullabaloo where she photographed performers including Vince Staples, Joji, Hayley Kiyoko, Cuco, Saba, Roy Woods and MadeinTYO. Additionally, she has trained over 30 interns in filmmaking as the Director of Staff Development at UC San Diego’s Triton Television.
